Steven P. Cummings, CCM, CCE.
Steve, a New Hampshire native, is a 1983 graduate of the University Of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Administration and over 35 years of experience in private club leadership positions. Steve began his career with the Dunfey Hotel Corporation as a management trainee at the Parker House and Dunfey Hyannis Resort. His venture into the private club business started at Winchester Country Club in Winchester, Massachusetts, where he assumed the duties as Assistant Manager. Following Winchester, Steve was the manager of Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania and he then returned to Winchester Country Club to assume the duties of Club Manager. Steve then accepted the position of General Manager at the Andover Country Club in Andover, Massachusetts and a year and a half later, started a twenty four year career at Brae Burn Country Club located in Newton, Massachusetts in 1988. Steve joined the Harvard Club of Boston as its General Manager in December of 2012. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association for over 10 years. Steve also served on the Board of the New England Club Manager’s Association (NECMA) as its Treasurer and recently finished a two year term as President of the David Meador Foundation of NECMA. He was named NECMA Club Manager of the Year in 2010, and has served on National Boards of the Club Manager’s Association of America (CMAA), in 2016 as a member of the Nominating Committee, in 2017 on the Membership Committee, and in 2018 as a member of the Research Committee. Steve is a founding board member of the Club Executives Association, Boston Chapter. The majority of Steve’s experience has been in the areas of Board Governance, External and Governmental Influences, Human and Professional Resources, Financial/Risk Management and general operations including Food, Beverage, Sports, Events and Facilities management. Additionally, Mr. Steve Cummings has overseen over $50 million of Club construction and improvement projects, hosted the Women’s United States Amateur Golf Championship, and mentored twelve assistant private club manager’s who are now in leadership positions as General Manager’s. He enjoys guest lecturing at his alma mater, Boston University, The University of Massachusetts, Mass Bay Community College, and in the Fall of 2020, he will join the Boston University School of Hospitality Administration faculty on a part time basis teaching their Private Club Management course. An avid golfer and cook, Steve resides with his family in Marshfield, Massachusetts.
