Volunteer Chef/Caterer Job Summary
We are looking for an energetic, adaptable, and experienced caterer / chef or culinary arts student to join our growing team of volunteers. In this role, you will work closely with our board to provide “tapas” or samples of your delights during one or more of our meetings or small fundraising events, such as a “Phantom Dinner”. You will plan menus, accommodate special requests from the board, prepare and service food and beverages, and aid setup the tables for attendees to serve themselves. Opportunities for event sponsorship are also available.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow catering protocol as well as company health and safety policies and procedures
- Plan event menus; incorporate requests and dietary needs
- Assist with the preparation of the event spaces prior to meetings/events; arrange tables and chairs, properly set tables with linens and place settings
- Demonstrate ability to communicate well with attendees
- Attend to guests’ needs for the duration of the event
- Prepare and serve food and drinks; bus tables as needed
- Load and unload catering vehicles with food, supplies, and equipment for events in all weather conditions
- Breakdown equipment following the event; help ensure that venue is left clean and tidy
Requirements and Qualifications
- TIPS certification required (for events only)
- Previous work experience in catering or banquet service, bartending, or on wait staff
- Ability to lift equipment and food supplies repeatedly
- Excellent food handling and preparation skills
- Ability to work safely with heated equipment
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Maintain a well-groomed, clean, professional appearance at meetings and events
